Hossegor: Claire's Favourite Spots

Between the ocean and the lake, Hossegor is often considered the California of the Landes. With its long beaches, legendary surf spots and laid-back lifestyle, the resort is packed with great places to eat, drink and stay. With so many options to choose from, making a decision isn't always easy! Hop on your bike and set off to discover some of our favourite spots.

Where to enjoy an aperitif?

With your feet in the sand, head to Les Planches Éphémères to sip a drink overlooking the ocean and admire a magnificent sunset.

On the shores of Lake Hossegor, Chez Jérôme is the perfect place to enjoy oysters straight from the producer.

Over in Capbreton, settle in at Chez Monsieur Mouette, overlooking the harbour, and share a few tapas before a game of pétanque with friends.

Where to go for brunch?

For a quick brunch, head to Green Cantine, right in the centre of Hossegor. We particularly love the delicious bacon & egg sandwich, perfect before browsing the market or taking a stroll around town.

Where to enjoy an afternoon treat with the kids?

You can't miss Tante Jeanne, the must-visit ice cream parlour in the centre of Hossegor, for a delicious family break.

At Central Beach, enjoy a doughnut, crêpe or ice cream with your feet in the sand after a swim or a surf session.

Where to have dinner?

Looking for a brasserie-style atmosphere? Le Cœur Joie serves generous, home-style and convivial cuisine, perfect after a day by the ocean.

For a more laid-back surf vibe, head to Surfin', an institution since the 1970s! Here, the dishes are made for sharing… but not the cocktails!

Where to stay?

For a surf & chill atmosphere, drop your bags at JO&JOE Hossegor. This new-generation hostel, nestled among the pine trees and just a few minutes from the ocean, offers the welcoming atmosphere of a large holiday home.

For a more secluded escape, Les 70 Hectares & l'Océan is a true haven of peace. Located in the heart of the pine forest, with breathtaking views over the Seignosse golf course, the hotel charms guests with its all-wood architecture and unspoilt surroundings. Even if you're staying elsewhere, their brunch is well worth the trip (be sure to book ahead).

Where to take surf lessons?

Head to Tao Magic Glisse, a family-run surf school managed by Estelle and Fred, ideally located opposite the Sud surf spot. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced surfer, young or old, you'll find lessons suited to all levels.

Where to go shopping?

You can't miss the famous Pédebert shopping area, a true paradise for surf enthusiasts. The biggest brands have outlet stores here, offering plenty of great deals all year round.

We particularly love the Californian vibe of Wasted Talent.

For a selection of GILI'S swimwear, head to Lamanda, right in the centre of Hossegor.
